CALIFORNIA LIGHTNING SPRINT CARS AT VENTURA RACEWAY SATURDAY!
(Placentia, CA, March 26, 2013)
After one week off, the California Lightning Sprint Car Series returns to action this Saturday night, March 30th, at Jim Naylor’s Ventura Raceway. Joining the CLS on Saturday’s racing card will be the VRA Sprint Cars, Senior Sprints, Hobby Stocks, Focus Midgets, Junior Midgets and Mini Dwarfs. Spectator gates will open at 3:00 PM and the first race will be at 5:30.

Saturday’s race, which is round #3 of the CLS Championship Series, will be the first of two appearances at the picturesque beach side oval in 2013. The other will take place on October 19th. Last year’s CLS champion, Bobby Michnowicz, won the only race staged at the track in 2012.

Heading into Saturday’s race, third year driver Steve Limon of Corona, has parlayed a second and fifth place finish in the first two races of the year into the series point lead. The 2011 “Rookie of the Year” leads Placentia’s Dan Hillberg, who won the season opening main at Perris Auto Speedway on March 9th, by a single point. Impressive San Clemente rookie Ronny Hancock, who had a third at the season opener, is currently ranked third. Veteran Tom Downing of Lakewood is fourth in the standings while veteran Guy Maresch of Anaheim Hills and Zach Zauss of Murrieta are tied for fifth.

At the last race of the series, round #1 of the “King of California Mini Sprint Challenge” at the Bakersfield Speedway on March 16th, Michnowicz started on the outside of the front row and beat pole sitter Hillberg to the checkered flag in the 20-car main event. Northern California’s Dakota Albright and Craig Dillard took third and fourth with Limon fifth. The 20-lap race went green to checkers uninterrupted.

For the second race in a row, Hancock was the hard charger. This time he started 20th and finished ninth.

Limon, Albright and Brian Corso won the three heats at Bakersfield.

After Saturday’s race, the CLS will get one week off before returning to Perris Auto Speedway where they will join the legendary World of Outlaws at the “SoCal Showdown” on April 13th.

For 2013, cars in the CLS will be carrying transponders and they will qualify at all events. The driver with the most fast qualifying times at the end of the season will win the “Cold Fire West Qualifying Championship” and will pocket an extra $500.00. Another new sponsor to the series this season is Extreme Muffler. They will sponsor the “Extreme Muffler Heat Race Championship” and the driver with the most heat race wins will collect a $500.00 check.

The California Lightning Sprint Car Series would like to thank series sponsors Christian Stover Foundation, Rod End Supply, Cold Fire West, Sander Engineering, Saldana Race Products, DK Machining and Fabrication, Keizer Aluminum Wheels, Hoosier Racing Tires, Circle Track Performance, Extreme Muffler, Performance by Rosson Racing, Electro Tech Powder Coating, Oil Twins Amsoil and Haul Ass Fuel.
