(Torrance, CA, July 6, 2017) The California Lightning/USAC Sprint Car Series returns to its home track, the Ventura Raceway, this Saturday night, July 8th. Joining the CLS on the ocean side dirt track will be the USAC West Coast Sprint Car Series, Dwarf Cars and the 600’s. Gates will open at 3:00 PM with racing at 5:30.

While Ventura is the home track for the CLS, Saturday will only mark its second appearance of 2017. However, of the seven races remaining on the CLS schedule, five of them will be at the popular dirt oval that has been promoted by Jim Naylor since the late 1970’s.

Spring Valley’s Jarrett Kramer, the 2010 CLS champion, has been on top of the point standings all season long in 2017. Please give photo credit to Doug Allen.

Saturday’s race was slated to be the third this year at Ventura, but the first time the club was supposed to appear there on April 8th, race intervened and canceled the show. Thus, the only race contested there this year was won by San Diego’s A.J. Bender on June 3rd.

Chris Dickey of Murrieta won the last CLS race two weeks ago at Santa Maria. In doing so, he became only the third repeat winner in 2017. The only other repeat winners are four-time series champion Bobby Michnowicz of Lomita, who has four wins, and Spring Valley’s Jarrett Kramer who has two.

2010 CLS champion Kramer has been in the point lead every inch of the way in 2017. Heading into Saturday night, he has a 60-point lead over impressive teenager Aiden Lange of Lakewood. Camarillo’s Cody Nigh is third in the standings and is 90-points behind Kramer. Michnowicz and Palmdale’s Eric Greco, who contested his first CLS race a year ago this weekend at Ventura, round out the top five.

The California Lightning Sprint Car Series would like to thank the following sponsors for helping make the 2017 season possible: Christian Stover Foundation, Circle Track Performance, Cold Fire West, DK Fabrication, Extreme Muffler, Fast Undercar, Hoosier Tire, Keizer Wheels, Outlaw Wings, Racing Optics, Rod End Supply, Saldana Race Products, Sander Engineering, Speedmart, Speed Partz, Super Shocks, T Shirts by Timeless, Woodland Auto Display.
