(Torrance, CA, October 24, 2017) The USAC/California Lightning Sprint Car Series will be making its sixth and final appearance at its home track, the Ventura Raceway, this Saturday night, October 28th. Joining the CLS at Jim Naylor’s ocean side oval on the Ventura County Fairgrounds will be the USAC Western Midgets, Dwarf Cars, Senior Sprint Cars and Focus Midgets. Spectator gates will open at 3:00 P.M. with racing at 5:30.

For the first time all season long, someone other than Jarrett Kramer will be leading the point standings heading into Saturday’s race. The Spring Valley based 35-year-old seized the lead at the season opener in El Centro in March and led every inch of the way until the last race at Ventura three weeks ago. Kramer’s engine misfortunes at that race combined with four-time series champion Bobby Michnowicz’s fifth straight win, saw the latter take over the top spot in the championship chase.

Going into Saturday’s race, Michnowicz, who calls Lomita home, leads Kramer by 45-points. The only other driver with a realistic chance at the 2017 title is Lakewood teenager Aiden Lange. The impressive second year CLS driver is 66-points behind leader Michnowicz and is only 21 behind Kramer. 2017 CLS Rookie of the Year Cody Nigh of Camarillo and Palmdale teen Eric Greco comprise the remainder of the top five.

Things could get crazy when the California Lightning Sprint Cars race at the Ventura Raceway for the final time in 2017 this Saturday night. Please give photo credit to Doug Allen.

In the first five races of the season at Ventura, Michnowicz has taken three of the wins. Alec Bender of Ramona and Charlie Caraccilo of Madera split the other two.

After Saturday, the CLS will only have one race remaining in the 2017 campaign. It will be the Western States Lightning Championship USAC National at the Bakersfield Speedway on November 18th.

The Ventura Raceway is conveniently located just off the freeway on the Ventura County Fairgrounds at 10 West Harbor Boulevard, Ventura, CA 93001. The track phone number is (805) 648-RACE and the website is:
