The contingencies will
come in a variety of ways and will be awarded in a
fashion, so they are spread throughout the field.
Included will be products, gift certificates, and
discount coupons. They will be awarded in a
variety of ways from the series champion and main
event winners all the way through hard luck
awards.
Below, new CLS
President Jon Robertson talks about the series
sponsors in a pre-season mini-interview.
CLS: What does it mean
to have contingency sponsors involved with the
CLS?
Robertson: They are
very important. It helps the competitors, and it
shows we still have a viable product. We bring a
lot to the field. It shows that all of these
sponsors have faith in the organization. CLS as an
entity is a very professionally run organization.
They (the sponsors) respect our series and the
competitors. I think we can do very well for them.
CLS: Unlike some series
where all the contingencies are placed on the top,
you are trying to be sure everybody has a chance
to get a piece of the pie. Why is this so
important?
Robertson: We like to
load this through the whole field. Everybody
brings something to the plate, and everybody is at
their own level of competitive edge. We just want
to make sure that everybody benefits from what is
coming into the organization. We are not only
trying to reward the top performers. We are trying
to reward everybody.
CLS: Things are finally
starting to get back to normal after two years
dealing with Covid. Was it hard to get sponsors
interested in this season?
Robertson: Yes and no.
I think people were excited to get things back on
track and to get things going. Shane Holt has
really come on board and come through with
incredible pull to pull these things together. He
has been tenacious in going out and contacting all
of these folks and they are all more than willing
to help. I think it helps to bring a certain
amount of normalcy back to what everybody does.
This is an elective activity. This is not
something that is essential to running the world,
the country or anybody’s lives. It is also an
important diversion from the harsh realities that
are going on all around.
CLS: You have nearly
$13,000.00 in contingencies as of now. Do you have
room for more if someone is interested?
Robertson: We will make
as much room as we need. We are still digging for
them. There is always room for one more or two
more or 10 more. We still have some irons in the
fire.
CLS: One of the biggest
events in CLS history is coming up on March 25th
when the CLS appears on the same card as the World
of Outlaws at the Bakersfield Speedway. How
exciting is that?
Robertson: That is
super cool. When Scott (Bakersfield promoter Scott
Schweitzer) called and gave us the opportunity, he
didn’t even need to finish the sentence and I was
asking ‘what time do we have to be there?’ We are
like baby Outlaws with our winged cars. We will
put on a good professional show for them and then
we will get to watch a really good show watching
the big wing guys hammering around the track.
