CALIFORNIA LIGHTNING SPRINTS HEAD NORTH TO BATTLE
WITH BCRA
(Torrance, CA, August 22, 2022)
The Southern California-based California Lightning
Sprint Car Series will journey north to lock horns
with the BCRA in rounds two and three of the
annual Civil War Series this Friday and Saturday,
August 26th and 27th. Friday’s action will take
place at the Kyle Larson/Brad Sweet/Colby Copeland
promoted Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico.
Twenty-four hours later the two series will battle
it out on the famous red clay of the Placerville
Speedway.
The
first round of the annual Civil War Series took
place on April 2nd at the Merced Speedway. In that
one, defending CLS and Civil War Series champion
David Gasper of Santa Barbara won the main event.
The personable teen, who has won six of the first
11 CLS point-paying races in 2022, commandeered
the lead from BCRA star Dakota Albright on lap 10
and went on for his first win of the year.
Albright hung onto second with CLS regulars Eric
Greco of Palmdale and Glendora teen Will Browne
placing third and fourth. BCRA driver Harlee
Aguilera of Orangevale ended up fifth.
This
weekend’s races will pay Civil War points and CLS
regular season points as well. Gasper sits on top
of the heap in both. In the Civil War Series, he
comes into the night with a 16-point gap between
himself and Albright and Greco, who are tied for
second. Browne, who is leading the CLS Rookie of
the Year chase, is fourth with Aguilera fifth.
Going into the shows on the CLS side, Gasper’s
lead has grown to 39-points over Yucca Valley’s
Jeff Dyer in the season-long championship chase.
Dyer is being pressured by Greco, who is just two
points behind the California Highway Patrol
officer. Camarillo’s Cody Nigh is fourth.
Five-time CLS series champion and legend Bobby
Michnowicz rounds out the top five.
After
this weekend’s races, the CLS will be off until
September 10th at Lemoore. Two weeks later it will
wrap up the 2022 Civil War Series at the
Bakersfield Speedway on September 24th.
In
addition to the Lightning Sprints, 360 Winged
Sprints, Hobby Stocks, and B Modifieds will all be
