California Lightning Sprints Stage First of Two Straight Ventura Races This Saturday
Torrance, CA — May 26, 2026 —
After a three-week break, the Motor City Buick/GMC California Lightning Sprint Car Series returns to action this Saturday night, May 30th, at the famous Ventura Raceway for the first of two consecutive races at the track known as “The Commotion by the Ocean.”

Saturday’s event will mark the second of six appearances at Ventura for the CLS in 2026. The first came on April 11th, when Camarillo’s Cody Nigh thrilled the hometown crowd by capturing his first victory of the season. Two-time CLS champion Brent Sexton of Lakeside finished second, while “Rockstar” Jon Robertson of Torrance rounded out the podium in third.

The upcoming race will be the sixth event of the 2026 CLS campaign, and the season has already produced four different winners. Current point leader Jeff Dyer of Yucca Valley is the only repeat winner, with victories at Imperial Valley Raceway and Bakersfield Speedway at Kevin Harvick’s Kern Raceway. Other winners this season include Nigh, Ramona’s David Taft, and Lakeside’s Grant Sexton.

Dyer heads into Saturday’s race holding a 69-point advantage over leading rookie Tyler Warner of Alpine. However, the past two weeks have been a brutal stretch for the California Highway Patrol officer, who has lost three engines during that span. It appeared he might be sidelined this weekend, but Brian Savage and Samantha Sproul stepped up and offered him a ride in their famous Savage Racing #3F.”

“Thanks for a few folks for stepping up and allowing me to run their cars for this weekend to keep my CLS and So Cal championships alive,” Dyer told his Facebook friends. “We took a big hit this weekend with So Cal but we will keep digging.

“With that being said, I will be in the Brian Fonseca #3F this weekend at Ventura Raceway. Looking forward to the opportunity to drive that car. See you this weekend.”

Following Dyer and Warner in the Motor City Buick/GMC championship standings are defending series champion Aiden Lange of Lakewood, Robertson, and rookie Liam Coffey of San Bernardino, who complete the top five.

Following Saturday’s event, the CLS will take one weekend off before returning to Ventura on June 13th. The club, founded in 1994, will close out the month two weeks later by traveling north to Merced for the first Civil War clash of the season against the BCRA.

In addition to the CLS, Saturday’s program will feature the VRA Sprint Cars, Senior Sprints, VRA Dwarf Cars, NMRA 3/4 Midgets, and Motorcycles. Spectator gates will open at 3:00 p.m., with racing scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. Adult tickets are $18.00. Seniors (60+), military personnel with ID, and students with ID are $15.00. Children 12 and under are admitted free with a paying adult. For more information, visit Ventura Raceway or call (805) 648-RACE.

The Ventura Raceway is located on the Ventura County Fairgrounds at 10 W. Harbor Blvd., Ventura, CA 93001.
